2 C unbleached flour
1\3 C sugar
1 TBSP baking powder
1\2 tsp. salt
5 TBSP unsalted butter (chilled)
1\2 C dried cranberries
1 large egg
zest of 1 orange or 1\2 tsp. orange zest
2\3 C buttermilk
milk for brushing

Raise oven rack to highest position & preheat to 400 degrees. Butter a baking sheet & set aside. In a lrg bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder & salt & mix well. Cut butter into small bits & drop into flour mixture & toss to coat bits. With your fingers, rub the butter into the flour until coarse crumbs are formed. In med. bowl beat the egg & then the orange zest & buttermilk. Pour this into flour mixture & stir with large spoon just until the dough is evenly moistened. Lightly flour a work surface, drop the dough onto flour & knead 2 or 3 times or until smooth. Pat the dough into 3/4-inch think disk & cut into 8 wedges & place on prepared baking sheet & brush lightly with milk. Bake for 15-17 min. or until golden brown. Serve at room temperature.

Hint: Use 2 cookie sheets, Put 1 cookie sheet face down the wrong way & set the one you're cooking on, on top of that one in the oven. It helps to insulate & protect the bottom from becoming too brown.
