1 lb minced round steak
4 oz onion finely chopped
1/4 tsp mixed herbs
4 oz cooked potato diced (or turnip)
2 tbsp. chopped fresh parsley
salt
black pepper
1 egg beaten

Shortcrust Pastry
16 oz self-raising flour
4 oz butter or margarine
cold water to mix
pinch of salt
4 oz lard

Directions:
Directions:
Mix meat well with vegetables, parsley and herbs. Season with salt and pepper. Roll out pastry to 1/4" thick and cut into 6" rounds using a small plate. Divide filling between pastry rounds. Brush edges with water and draw up to meet on top of filling. Press firmly together and crimp with fork and pinch into flutes. Place on greased tray. Brush with beaten egg. Make two slits for steam to escape. Bake in preheated oven at 400ºF for 15 min then lower heat to 350ºF for 35 to 50 min or until golden.

Shortcrust Pastry
Sift flour and salt into bowl. Cut fat into flour and toss until well coated. Rub in with fingertips to bread crumb consistency. Gradually stir in cold water until beginning to bind. Gather together with fingers. Work into soft, not sticky, ball of dough leaving bowl clean.
