1 1/2 #'s mild italian sausages cut into 1/2 inch clices
2 cloves garlic minced
2 large onion chopped
1 large can (28 oz) italian seasoned tomatoes
6 cups beef broth
1 1/2 cups dry red wine
1/2 (or more) dry basil ot 12 leaves fresh chopped
3 TBSP chopped parsley
1 TBSP sugar
1 med grn bell pepper seeded and chipped
2 med zucchini cut into 1/2 slices or chunks
2 cans cannelli beans (optional)
3 cups dry bow tie pasta
3 cups water
Grated parmesan cheese

In 5/6 qt soup pot cook sausages stirring often and until brown. Rmove with slotted spoon and set aside. Discard all but 3 TBSP of grease cooking onion and garlic cooking til soft (about 5 min.)

Deglaze pan with 2-3 TBSP beef broth, stirring well until broth evaporates and all brown bits have dissolved. Add sausages...breaking up with wooden spoon. Add rest of broth, wine, tomatoes, grn pepper, zucchini, basil, sugar and pasta and beans Bring to boil cover and reduce to a simmer stirring occasionaly until pasta and zucchini are tender. (10-15 minutes) Season with s & P. Ladle into bowls and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. (I prefer to let it sit awhile and serve later...flavors meld more.)
