1/4 c butter
3/4 c brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking soda
3/4 c boiling water
1 1/3 c flour
1 tsp baking powder
3/4 c chopped nuts
10 maraschino cherries chopped
1 c chopped dates

Directions:
Directions:
Pour boiling water over dates and baking soda and let cool. Cream butter and brown sugar. Beat in egg and vanilla. Mix dry ingredients together with nuts and cherries and combine with butter-sugar mixture. Gently fold in cooled dates and soda mixture. Spoon into greased loaf pan. Bake at 350ºF for approximately 45 min or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
