1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. sugar
3 T. cocoa
1 T. vinegar
1 tsp. vanilla
5 T. melted Crisco
1 c. water

Directions:
Directions:
Sift dry ingredients into an 8" square cake pan. Make 3 holes in dry ingredients. In first hole, add vinegar; in second hole. add vanilla, in third hole, add melted Crisco. Over all of this, pour 1 c. water. Mix well. Bake in 375 degree oven for 40 minutes.

This is a depression-era recipe that Minga (our Mom) made often when I was young. Our Dad, Earl Bond, wanted dessert with his supper every night and Mom baked something a couple times per week.
