2 pkg. yeast
1 1/2 c. very warm water
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. sugar
1 Tbsp. shortening
4 c. flour

Directions:
Directions:
Sprinkle yeast into 1 c. water and stir until dissolved. In a large bowl, dissolve salt and sugar in 1/2 c. of water. Add shortening and yeast mixture to salt/sugar water and mix well. Add flour and beat well. Work through dough with spoon at 10 minute intervals for 5 consecutive times (1 hour). Turn dough onto lightly floured board and divide into 2 balls and let rest 10 minutes. Roll each into rectangle 12"x9". Roll as for a jelly roll and seal edges. Put on cookie sheet and score top with sharp knife 6 times. Cover and let rise 1 1/2 hours. Bake 25 minutes at 400ºF. Brush with butter or spray with spray oil. Yield: 2 loaves
