½ c butter
2 squares of baking chocolate
3/4 c sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
1 ½ c flour
½ tsp baking soda
1 tsp cream of tartar
½ c butter milk
1 c chopped nuts (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Melt the butter and chocolate together in a double boiler over simmering water. Add the sugar and beat well. Stir in the vanilla. Add the eggs, one at a time, and beat well after each addition.
Combine the flour , baking soda, and cream of tartar, and add alternately with the buttermilk, to the first mixture. Blend well. If adding nuts, do so at this time.

Bake on a waffle iron until done. They burn easily! You may need to grease the iron prior to using.

Serve hot with vanilla ice cream. (and a little whipped cream on top never hurt anything)
