Vegetable oil
3/4 cup of milk
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground mace
2 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
1/2 cup currants or raisins (optional)

1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oil (2-3 inches) in a Dutch oven or cast iron skillet
Beat milk, sugar, 1/4 cup oil, eggs, baking powder, salt, mace,and a cup of flour in large mixing bowl. Beat on medium speed and add remaining flour slowly scraping the sides . Beat for two minutes. Add the raisins.

Drop batter by teaspoons into the hot oil. Turn the puffs as they rise.
Fry until golden brown, 2 - 3 minutes each side
Drain on paper towels.
Mix 1/4 cup sugar and the 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon and roll the puffs in the mixture.

This recipe comes from grandma Vander weyden. These"Dutch doughnuts" called Ollie bollen are traditionally served on New Year's Eve in the Netherlands. They can also be made with apples, but we always had them with raisins.
