1 lb. sirloin steak, cut in to small pieces
4 T. oil
2 T. butter
1 small onion, diced
1 clove garlic, chopped
1 6 oz. can tomato paste
1 6 oz. can tomato sauce
1 c. water
salt to taste
pepper to taste
1 tsp. parsley
1 tsp. basil
1 c. Arborio rice
1 13 oz. can chicken OR beef broth
Shredded parmesan cheese
Italian bread

Brown the steak on all sides. Saute onion and garlic in the oil and butter. Add the browned steak, tomato paste, tomato sauce and water. Add salt, pepper, parsley and basil. Simmer on low heat for 1 hour. Then add rice and can of chicken/beef broth. Stir. Simmer again on low 30-35 minutes, stirring often until rice is cooked. Add a little water if the mixture is too dry. Serve with parmesan cheese and Italian bread.

This was my Mom, Elda Dorsey's, recipe that her mother, Anna Brescacin, used to make. My mom actually submitted this to the Rochester Post Bulletin and it was printed! And it stated, "Elda Dorsey, visiting Rochester from Bangor, PA, shares this recipe.....". Haha.
