2/3 cup shortening 1/2 tsp baking powder
2 cups sugar 3/4 cup sour milk
1/2 cup cocoa 1 1/2 tsp soda
2 whole eggs 1 tsp vanilla
2 cups flour 1 cup boiling water
1/4 tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, add sugar gradually, cream until light. Add cocoa and continue creaming. Add eggs-one at a time, beating well after each one. Sift dry ingredients together 5 times. Add soda & sour milk together and add alternately to cream mixture with flour. Add vanilla and last-add 1 cup of boiling water. Bake in oven in either a bundt pan or round layer pans (prepare the pan or pans by spraying with non stick spray. Bake at 375º til done.

This recipe was hand written by my mom (Euna Guinn) on the back of a letter written to my dad from Paul Tapp (County Extension Agent of Decatur) the letter was dated January 23, 1963.
