2 c chocolate morsels
2 T shortening
30 vanilla caramels
3 T butter
2 T water
1 c coarsely chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Melt chocolate morsels and shortening over hot, but NOT boiling water. Stir until morsels melt and mixture is smooth. Remove from heat. Pour ½ of melted chocolate into 8” foil lined square pan. Spread chocolate evenly, covering bottom of pan. Refrigerate until firm (about 15 minutes). Return remaining chocolate mixture to low heat. Over boiling water combine water, caramels, and butter. Stir until caramels melt and mixture is smooth. Stir in nuts until well blended. Pour into chocolate lined pan. Spread evenly. Refrigerate until tacky, about 15 minutes. Cover caramel with remaining melted chocolate. Spread evenly to cover caramel filling. Return to refrigerator and chill until firm (about 1 hour). Cut into 1” x 2” rectangles. Refrigerate until ready to serve. Recipe makes about 32 pieces of candy.
