3/4 c shortening
1 c sugar
1/4 c molasses
1 egg
2 tsp baking soda
2 c flour, sifted
1/2 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
PREHEAT oven to 375º.
Sift together: flour, soda, cloves, ginger, cinnamon and salt; put to the side.

Melt shortening in a 3 to 4 quart saucepan over low heat.
Remove from hear; let cool.
Add sugar, molasses and egg.
Beat well.

Add dry ingredients.
Mix well.
Chill.

Form in 1 inch balls.
Roll in granulated sugar.
Place on greased/parchment-lined cookie sheet two inches apart.

BAKE for 8 to 10 minutes.

Bake in oven for full time for crispy cookies.

Remove from oven and let them bake last couple of minutes on the hot cookie sheet to make soft and chewy.
