3/4 cup sugar 2 cups milk
2 tbsp. cocoa 4 egg yolks
4 tbsp. flour l tsp. vanilla
dash salt 2 tbsp. butter

Directions:
Directions:
Mix dry ingredients together in the top of a double boiler. Add milk slowly, stirring well until it is warm. Add a small amount (about ½ cup) to the egg yolks until mixed. Pour that mixture into the rest and cook until it is thick, stirring occasionally to keep it from clumping. When the desired consistency is reached, remove from heat and add butter and vanilla. When cool, pour into baked pastry shell. Top with meringue and bake for 5-10 minutes at 425° until golden brown. Whipped cream can be used instead of meringue if desired.

This is the best of the best! It is my own version that was created by comparing the ingredients from one recipe that my mother gave me many years ago and one that Marie Cosse (our landlord in Monroe, LA.) gave to me in 1962.
