Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 c flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp baking powder
4 T butter
2 tsp golden syrup
2 c buttermilk or whole milk

Directions:
Directions:
Sift the flour into a bowl. Add all the other dry ingredients and mix well. Rub in the butter, then add the syrup and milk. Mix this with a knife until the consistency is soft and pliable.

Turn onto a floured surface and roll quickly and lightly, handling as little as possible, to approx 3/4 inch thick. Cut into rounds.

Grease and heat the griddle (or heavy frying pan). Lift the scones onto the griddle and turn once until brown on both sides. Serve freshly baked (normally with butter)

Tip for testing heat in griddle:
Sprinkle a little flour on it. If the flour turns brown immediately then it is TOO hot. It should take a few seconds to change colour.

Personal Notes:
This recipe also came to me from Grandma Stout. The recipe I found online as I never was privy to her recipe. But she was famous for making her scones.
