½ t salt
¼ t cream of tartar
3 T water (or 2 T water and 2 t corn syrup)
2 egg whites, room temperature

Cook in double boiler and beat with electric beater until soft peaks. Add 1 teaspoon vanilla and beat until mixture stands in stiff peaks.

This recipe handwritten in a blank space in The Household Searchlight Recipe Book. Topeka, Kansas: The Household Magazine, 1940 had no tiitle. Because it was written in the Icing and Filling section, the list of ingredients, and the use of the word peaks in the directions, it appears to be a meringue.
