2 tbsp. vegetable oil
1 onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 pound ground beef
3 (15oz) cans black beans, drained (reserve liquid)
1 (14oz) can chicken broth (bouillon may be used)
1 (14.5oz) can crushed or diced tomatoes
1/3 cup ketchup
1/2 can tomato paste (I usually use half this amount of the paste in a tube)
2 tbsp. sugar
1 1/2 tbsp. chili powder
1/2 tsp red pepper
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tbsp. oregano
1 tbsp. dried basil leaves
1/2 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp salt
1 tbsp. red wine vinegar

Directions:
Directions:
Heat the oil in a large heavy pot over medium heat; cook onion and garlic until onions are translucent. Add ground beef and cook, stirring, until meat is brown. Stir in beans, tomatoes, chicken broth, ketchup, tomato paste, sugar, chili powder, red pepper, cumin, oregano, basil, salt, pepper and vinegar. Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer 60 minutes or more until flavors are well blended.
