½ c shortening
1½ c brown sugar
3 whole eggs
1 t baking powder
1 t cinnamon
1 t cloves
1 t salt
1 t soda
1 t nutmeg
½ t allspice
1 c buttermilk
2¾ c flour
2 large or 3 small bananas
1 c chopped nuts, optional

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º oven. Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, continuing to cream until fluffy. Sift flour. Measure flour, combine with remaining dry ingredients, and sift again. Mash bananas and combine with buttermilk. Alternately, add flour mixture and banana mixture. Pour batter into 9" x 13" baking pan. Bake for 1 hour or until determined done using toothpick test. Frost or serve with whipped cream.
