1 c butter
2 c sugar
1 c buttermilk
6 egg yolks
4 egg whites, stiffly beaten
2 c flour
½ c cocoa or 4 squares chocolate, melted
1 t baking soda
1 t vanilla
dash of cloves
dash of cinnamon
dash of allspice

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. Grease and flour 2 cake pans. Cream butter and sugar. Add milk and egg yolks. Mix in flour, cocoa, salt and spices. Add stiffly beaten egg whites. Finally, add baking soda dissolved in vanilla. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted into center of layer comes out clean. Frost with Chocolate Ganache or icing of choice.
