2 c sliced, seedless dates packed real tight.
2 t baking soda
2 c hot water
1 stick butter
2 c sugar
2 eggs
2 c flour
2 t baking powder
Dash salt
1 c chopped pecans

Directions:
Directions:
Combine dates, water, and soda together, set aside. Cream butter, sugar, and eggs. Add dry ingredients to this and then fold in date mixture and pecans. Pour into a greased and floured 9x13 pan and mom always poured some into a smaller prepared round pan. Bake at 350 for 45 min. until toothpick comes out clean.

Topping
2 c brown sugar
3 T flour
1/2 c butter
Cook until thickened
Add 2 t vanilla
Serve with whipped cream and cherry

Mom never baked much at all, but this was her signature dessert when she had "club" or on Thanksgiving. Spoon sauce on top when serving with whipped cream and a cherry.
