4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
2/3 c sugar
6 tsp baking powder
2 tsp salt
1/2 c salad oil
2 eggs
2 c milk
1 c chopped dates
1 c chopped nuts
Orange Butter (see recipe in files)

Directions:
Heat oven to 350ºF. Grease generously eight 10 oz soup cans. Sift flour, sugar, baking powder and salt into a large mixing bowl. Combine oil, eggs and milk and beat together with a fork to blend. Add to sifted dry ingredients and stir just to blend. Stir in dates and nuts. Spoon batter into prepared cans, filling about 2/3 full. Bake about 50 min or until a toothpick stuck in center comes out clean. Let stand in cans about 5 min then shake loose and put on racks to finish cooling. Wrap loaves in heavy-duty aluminum foil when cool and let mellow for a day before slicing. Cut each loaf into 8 or 9 slices shortly before serving. Spread with orange butter.
