2 Tbsp. butter
2 Tbsp. shortening
3 Tbsp. warm water, divided
5 c. powdered sugar, divided
3 tsp. warm water
2 drops red food coloring
2 drops oil of cinnamon
2 drops green food coloring
2 drops of oil of peppermint
2 drops yellow food coloring
2 drops oil of lemon

Directions:
Directions:
Combine butter, shortening, 2 Tbsp. warm water and 2 c. sugar. Mix thoroughly. Add remaining 3 c. sugar & 1 Tbsp. warm water and 1 or more Tbsp. sugar to make mixture stiff enough to roll out.
Divide mixture in thirds.
To one third add red food coloring mixed with 1 tsp. warm water and oil of cinnamon; knead thoroughly to mix. Roll out to ⅛-inch thickness on waxed paper dusted with sugar.
To another third add green coloring mixed with 1 tsp. warm water and oil of peppermint.
Add yellow coloring and oil of lemon to rest.
Cut with very small hors d'oeuvre cutters in fancy shapes or use the inside of a doughnut cutter. Let the mints stand, bottom side up, on waxed paper at least 2 hours before placing in airtight containers.
Yield: 130 mints (1 ¼ lbs.)
