1 cup unsalted butter
4 1oz. squares unsweetened chocolate
4 eggs
2 cups sugar
1 cup sifted all purpose flour
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 1/2 cups whipping cream
1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 Tbl. instant coffee powder
2 1oz.squares chocolate,shaved

Preheat oven to 350º. Grease or spray 2, 9-inch round baking pans. Melt 1 cup butter and unsweetened chocolate in double boiler over simmering water. Cool. Using electric mixer ,beat eggs till frothy, about 3 min. Gradually add sugar and beat well, 2-3 minutes.
Fold in flour, nuts and salt. Do not overmix. Pour into prepared pans. Bake until tester comes out clean, about 20-25 min. Do not overbake. If edges crisp they will crumble. Cool in pans 5 minutes. Put on racks and cool.
Using electric mixer, whip cream until beginning to thicken, 2-3 minutes. Gradually add brown sugar and instant coffee. Continue beating until stiff peaks form. Spread cream between layers and over top and sides of torte. Sprinkle shaved chocolate over top. Refrigerate at least 1 hour or overnight. Serve chilled.

Hard to believe this was a recipe we made and served in addition to the pepperoni crescent rollups and boursin chicken. I am pretty sure it was made at Willowbrrok at Becky and Lucia's apartment and also pretty sure this is the night the whipped cream turned to buttter?
I do remember it was still delicious!
