1 1/4 c warm water (110-115 deg)
1 pkg dry yeast
2 tblsp soft shortening
2 tsp salt
2 tblsp sugar
3 c flour

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve yeast in bowl with warm water. Add shortening, salt, sugar and half the flour.
Beat 2 minutes at medium mixer speed or 300 vigorous hand strokes.
Scrape sides and bottom of bowl often.
Add remaining flour and blend with spoon until smooth.
Scrape batter from sides of bowl, cover with clean cloth and let rise in warm place (85 deg) for about 30 min.
Stir batter about 25 strokes and spread evenly in greased loaf pan. Smooth top and pat into shape with floured hand.
Let rise again until batter reaches 1/4 in from top of pan, about 40 min.
Heat over to 375 deg and bake 45-50 min until brown.
Remove from pan, place on cooling rack and brush top with melted butter.
Let cool thoroughly but not in direct draft before cutting.

Mom use to make this all the time and we just could hardly wait till it was cooled to cut a big slice and slather a big slab of butter on it....YUM....
