2 sticks butter, at room temperature
3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon almond extract
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt

Glaze:

1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
4 to 5 teaspoon water
colored sprinkles

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

In a large mixer bowl, beat butter, sugar and almond extract at medium speed until creamy. Add remaining ingredients and beat until well mixed.

Roll dough into 1" balls and place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Flatten balls slightly with the bottom of a buttered glass dipped in sugar. Bake for 7 to 9 minutes or until edges are very lightly browned. Remove from oven and cool on sheets for 1 minute before removing. Cool completely, then glaze and decorate with sprinkles.

For glaze, place all the powdered sugar in a bowl and gradually add water a teaspoon at a time until you can spread it easily over the cooled cookies. Decorate immediately with the sprinkles as the glaze dries quickly.
