1 pound green split peas
1 meaty ham bone
chicken or vegetable stock
1 1/2 cups sliced onion
1 tsp thyme
1 c diced celery
1 c diced carrots
1 c diced potatoes
salt/pepper
Mrs. Dash's seasoning
2 bay leaves
couple drops hot sauce

Directions:
Directions:
Rinse peas and check over. Cover peas and ham bone with 2 quarts of water. (Use chicken stock as part of your water) Add the rest and simmer several hours or you can also use a slow cooker.
Remove the bone after it is well cooked and remove any meat. Add the meat back in the broth. Some people will smash or put soup in blender, but I usually don't.
