1 (6 oz) bottle maraschino cherries, cut in halves
2 1/2 c sifted all purpose flour
4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 c brown sugar
1/3 c syrup from cherries
2/3 c milk
1 beaten egg
1/4 c melted butter
1/2 c chopped walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
Drain cherries reserving syrup. Sift dry ingredients and add sugar. Combine syrup, milk, egg, and butter. Stir into flour mixture until mixed but still lumpy. Fold in cherries and nuts. Turn into greased 9X5" loaf pan and bake at 350ºF until skewer inserted in center comes out clean (about 60 min). Let stand overnight to blend flavors before serving.
