Cake:
1 c. chopped dates
1 ¼ c. boiling water
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking soda
¾ c. butter
2 large eggs
1 ½ c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt

Topping:
½ c. chopped pecans
¾ c. chocolate chips
½ c. sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Sprinkle soda over dates. Add boiling water and let stand until dates are plump. Cream butter and sugar; add eggs and vanilla. Combine flour, cinnamon and salt. Combine date mixture and flour mixture. Add to creamed ingredients. Mix and pour into lightly greased and floured 9-inch by 13-inch pan. Combine topping ingredients and sprinkle on top.
Bake at 350º F for 25 to 30 minutes.
