2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup sugar
1/3 cup shortening
3/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg, unbeaten

Directions:
Directions:
Grease and line and 8 inch square baking pan.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Beat for 1 minute between additions.

If making pineapple upside down cake, melt butter and brown sugar in baking pan before placing batter into the pan. Then place canned pineapple slices on top of butter / brown sugar.

Turn into baking pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes.

Sift flour, salt, and baking powder.

Combine milk and vanilla.

Cream sugar and shortening for 2 minutes.

Add egg to shortening mixture and beat 1 minute.

Add flour and milk mixtures alternating to the egg mixture.
