½ c. molasses
1 ¼ Tbsp. vinegar
¼ c. milk
¼ tsp. cream of tartar
1/8 tsp. baking soda
¼ c. water
3 Tbsp. butter
1 ½ c. sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Pour molasses, sugar, milk, water, and vinegar in saucepan. Stir until it begins to boil. Then add cream of tartar. When nearly done, add butter and baking soda. Continue cooking until it becomes brittle when tried in cold water. Pour on buttered plates. When cool enough to handle, pull until light colored. Cut in small pieces.

I can remember making taffy as a kid.... one time especially in the kitchen on the farm in Lexington.... I think on a Sunday afternoon. I recall Joyce and me laughing a lot.
This recipe was found in a 1939 Alma cookbook with Grandma as the contributor.
