2 1/4 c. all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. butter
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 Tbsp. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. nutmeats
1 c. finely cut dates
1/3 c. finely cut maraschino cherries
2 1/2 c. corn flake crumbs
12 maraschino cherries, cut in quarters

Directions:

Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Blend butter and sugar; add well beaten eggs. Stir in milk and vanilla. Add sifted dry ingredients together with nuts, dates and finely cut cherries; mix well.
Shape dough into balls, using 1 Tbsp. for each; roll balls in corn flake crumbs. Place on greased cookie sheet. Top each cookie with 1/4 cherry.
Bake at 375º F for 12 minutes.
Yield: 4 dozen

I recall Mom making these when I was young.... 1st grade or younger. They were considered a "fancy" cookie with the cherry on top.
