1/2 cup butter or margarine
2/3 cup brown sugar
1 egg, separated
2 T. milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/3 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup finely chopped nuts
Vanilla Filling
Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter, sugar, egg yolk, milk and vanilla. Combine flour and salt and blend into creamed mixture. Chill at least 1 hour or until firm enough to handle. Heat oven to 350º. Shape dough into 1 inch balls. Beat egg white slightly. Dip each ball in egg white. Roll in nuts. Place on baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Press thumb gently in center of each cookie. Bake 10-12 minutes until set. When cookies are removed from the oven, repress the center with thumb. Let cool. Fill with colored filling.

Filling: Combine 1 cup confectioner's sugar, 1/4 cup softened butter and 1/4 teaspoon vanilla to form stiff icing. Add food color and/or additional flavoring as desired.
