1 stick butter
1/2 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
5 egg yolks
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 small can coconut
1 cup chopped pecans
5 egg whites, stiffly beaten

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and shortening. Add sugar and beat until smooth. Add yolks and beat well. Combine flour and baking soda. Add to cream mixture; alternate with buttermilk. Stir in vanilla and coconut. Add egg whites and nuts last. Pour into 2 or 3 (8 inch) greased pans. Bake at 350º for 25 minutes or until done.
