½ cup sugar
½ tsp vanilla
Any flavorings or other additions desired.

Directions:
Mix together ingredients. Pour into a 1 lb coffee can with a tight fitting lid. Wrap the lid with masking tape. Place the 1 lb can inside a 3 lb. Coffee can. Pack with crushed or small cubed ice. Pour ¾ cup rock salt evenly over the ice. Put the lid on the can and tape the lid tightly with the masking tape. Roll the can back and forth on the floor for 10 minutes.
Open the cans and stir the ingredients. If not set up enough, replace the lid, add more tape, add more ice and salt if needed, reseal the outer can and then roll for additional time. Open and enjoy!

---Every 7th grade student in Lincoln made this when I taught there...
I would have the students do this outside on the sidewalk. If the kids got too “energetic” with their rolling, the inside seal would break and salt water would get into their ice cream. Aahhh…nothing like “Natural Consequences!
