3/4 cup sugar
4 tsp. baking powder
4 tbsp. cocoa powder
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. ground cloves
4 cups flour
3 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup milk, lukewarm
1 cup margarine, melted

Frosting:
2 cups powdered sugar
2 tsp. cocoa powder
2 to 3 tbsp. milk

Mix all the dry ingredients together. Add the beaten eggs; mix well. Add the melted margarine and milk; mix well. Knead together to form a soft dough, then shape into 1-inch balls. Place on parchment-lined cookie sheets. Bake in a preheated 400º oven for 10 to 12 minutes. Frosting: Mix the powdered sugar and cocoa powder. Add the milk until you get the right consistency. Don't make the frosting too thin. Dip each cookie into the frosting and lay them out onto waxed paper to dry.

I worked with a sweet Italian woman who loved to bake. Her Italian chocolate cookies were incredible. I have included many different versions of this recipe in our cookbook. It is hard to say which one is better. I think it is just a matter of taste, but I make these cookies quite often and everyone always asks me for the recipe!
