2 1/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 1/4 cups sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs
1 cup (2 medium-size) mashed, very ripe bananas
1/2 cup buttermilk or sour milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup chopped nuts

Frosting:
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup peanut butter
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp salt
1 lb. sifted confectioner's sugar
1/3 cup cream

Cake:
1. Grease and flour bottoms of two layer pans or 9X13-inch pan.
2. Sift flour with sugar, baking powder, soda and salt into large mixing bowl.
3. Add shortening, eggs and bananas. Beat 1 1/2 minutes at low speed or 225 strokes with a spoon.
4. Add buttermilk and vanilla extract; continue beating 1 1/2 minutes at low speed.
5. Stir in nuts.
6. Pour batter into pans. Bake at 350ºF; 25 min for layer pan; 35 min for 9X13, until cake springs back when lightly touched in the center. When cool, frost with Creamy Peanut Butter Frosting.

Frosting:
1. Cream butter and peanut butter in mixing bowl.
2. Add vanilla extract, salt, sugar and cream. Beat until smooth and of spreading consistency. If necessary, thin with additional cream.
