Half a cup of boiling water
sweet cooking chocolate
one cup butter
2 cups sugar
four eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/2 cups cake flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup buttermilk
4egg whites stiffly beaten

Heat oven to 350° grease three round pans eight or 9 inches or two square pans drease bottom of pans with wax paper in small bowl pour boiling water over chocolate stirring until chocolate is melted set aside to cool in large mixer bowl cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy add egg yolks one at a time beating after each addition and low-speed blending chocolate and vanilla mix in flour baking soda and salt alternately with buttermilk beating after addition until batter is smooth fold in egg whites divide batter among pans
Bake 8 inch round 25 to 40 minutes 9 inch ram 30 to 35 minutes 80 in.² 45 to 50 minutes 9 inch Square 40 to 45 minutes or until top springs back when touched lightly with finger cool Phil layers and frost top of cake with coconut Pecan front

This was one of my moms favorite cakes to make everybody used to try to fight to get the caramel with the coconut and the Pecans
