1/2 cup of shortening
1 cup 10 X sugar
one egg
one and a half teaspoon almond extract
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
i2 1/2cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
half a teaspoon red food color
half a cup of crushed peppermint candy
half a cup of sugar

Heat oven to 375 mix thoroughly butter shortening 10 X sugar egg and flavorings blend in flour and salt divide dough in half blend food color into one half
Shape 1 teaspoon from each half into 4 inch rope for a smooth even ropes roll them back-and-forth on lightly floured board
Place rope side-by-side pressed together lightly and twist complete cookies one at a time place on ungreased baking sheet curved top down to form a handle of cane
Bake about nine minutes or until set and very light brown mixed candy and granulated sugar immediately sprinkle cookies with candy mixture remove from baking sheet
