1/4 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 cup molasses
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 cup hot water
2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together shortening and sugar; beat in egg. Stir in molasses. Dissolve soda in 1/2 cup hot water and add to creamed mixture. Sift other dry ingredients; add to mixture. Chill dough slightly about 30 minutes in the refrigerator. Drop from teaspoon into greased cookie sheet. Bake at 400º F about 8 minutes. While still slightly warm, frost with Confectioner's Icing. Makes 3 dozen.
