1 cup butter or margarine
1 cup sugar
1 egg, separated
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 cup finely chopped nuts or thinly sliced almonds
1 tbsp. water with egg white

Directions:
Directions:
Lightly grease a 15 1/2 " x 1 inch jelly roll pan. Mix butter, egg yolk and sugar. Measure flour and blend in cinnamon. Stir into butter mixture and pat into pan. Beat water and egg white until frothy; brush over dough. sprinkle with nuts. Bake 20 to 25 minutes in preheated 350º oven, or until lightly browned. Cut immediately into 3 by 1 inch finger-like strips.

I made these cookie bars when Paul Van Engen was living with us. They received his approval. Maybe his love of Mom's cooking is one of the reasons that many years later we stayed connected to an exchange student from 1973.
