2 cups dried beans
4 cups water
1 tsp. salt

3 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. salt

1/4 cup ketchup
1 whole onion, peeled

Directions:
Directions:
Wash beans in cold water, and pick out any culls. Put to soak in water overnight. In morning, bring beans to boil over moderate heat, and boil 1 - 1 1/2 hours, or until beans are soft and beginning to split. Remove any froth which accumulates while boiling. Pour beans into a crock or casserole, undrained, and add enough water to barley cover beans.

Mix remaining ingredients and put with beans. Put onion in centre. Cook in 300º oven for 1 1/2 - 2 hours, or until soft. Stir occasionally during baking, and do not hesitate to add 1/2 cup water, if beans begin to get dry while baking.
