2 or 3 large green peppers
1 1/2 lb ground beef
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1 medium onion chopped
1 egg slightly beaten
1/4 c soft bread crumbs
1/4 c milk
dash Worcestershire sauce
broiled tomatoes (optional)

Cut the green peppers into rings 1" wide. You will need 8 rings. Remove seeds. Set rings on waxed paper. Combine meat, salt, pepper, onion, egg, soft bread crumbs, milk and Worcestershire sauce mixing lightly with fork. Spoon the meat into the pepper rings leveling it off with a fork. Put on rack in broiler pan. Slip under hot broiler, about 3" from heat and broil until well browned and done to your taste (about 5 min a side for pink inside). Lift off broiler rack with a pancake turner and put on hot platter. Serve with broiled tomatoes if desired.

Note: If you want to serve broiled tomatoes slice tomatoes (about 1/2") and sprinkle them with salt, pepper and a pinch of sweet basil. Dot with butter. About 3 min before ground beef is done add them to the broiler rack to heat through.
