"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

Ingredients:
Ingredients:
35 or so saltine type crackers (usually one sleeve from a box of 4)
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup firmly packaged light brown sugar
8 oz. semi sweet chocolate (1.5 cups of chips)
1 cup finely chopped walnuts or pecans

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400º.
Line 15 x 10 or similar size pan with foil. Place crackers in a single layer on foil, keeping them in full rows. Then bend foil up around edges so when syrup is poured on them, it stays on the crackers and doesn't run to empty parts of the pan.

Heat butter and sugar in saucepan on medium-high heat until butter is melted and mixture is well blended. Bring to a boil and boil for 3 minutes without stirring. Spread evenly over crackers.

Bake 7 minutes. Immediately sprinkle with chocolate pieces and let stand to melt for 5 minutes. Spread melted chocolate evenly over crackers then sprinkle with nuts. Press to set into chocolate. Let cool or put into refrigerator or freezer. Cut or break into pieces.

Be watchful when both cooking the sugar on the stove and while baking the crackers. These times may need adjusted for different appliances. If it seems to be burning at any part of the process, remove from the heat or oven and proceed with the next step.
