3 c. split peas
2 bay leaves
4 T. oil
4 cloves garlic (or garlic powder)
3 T. soy sauce
1 med. onion, chopped fine
3 c. diced potatoes
1 c. chopped celery
1 c. chopped carrot
2 T. chopped parsley
Salt to taste

Directions:
Directions:
1. Soak peas overnight or for several hours. Rinse and drain.

2. Add 3 qts. water and cook together with bay leaves, oil, garlic, soy sauce, and onion. Salt.

3. Cook until dissolved (about 1.5 hours) then add potatoes, celery, carrots, and parsley.

4. Cook slowly and stir often to avoid sticking, until vegetables are tender (30 min.).
