Directions:
In a mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add shortening, sugar and half the flour. With a mixer, beat 2 minutes at medium speed. Scrap sides and bottom of bowl frequently. Add remaining flour and blend with a spoon until smooth. Scrap sides and bottom of bowl; cover with a cloth and let rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes. Beat dough about 25 strokes and spread it evenly in a 9 x 5 x 3 loaf pan. Pat into shape using floured hands. Place in a warm spot and let rise until dough reaches ¼ inch from top. Bake in 375°F oven for 45 to 50 minutes. Place on cooling rack and brush with melted butter.

Personal Notes:
When it came to bread, mom usually made yeast rolls. Occasionally, as a change-up, she would make this white bread recipe. It is best warm, slathered in butter. Makes great leftover meat sandwiches too.
