5 medium yellow squash
1 egg, beaten
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 medium onion, chopped
3/4 cup of self rising cornmeal
1/4 cup flour
Vegetable oil

Directions:
Directions:
Slice squash; cover with water and cook over medium heat until well done, 15 to 20 minutes. Drain, mash and drain again. Combine all ingredients. Drop mixture by scant tablespoons into oil heated to 350 F. Fry for several minutes, until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
