4 c. flour
3 Tblsp. white sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 Tblsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. soft margarine or butter
1 c. buttermilk (or use milk and add few drops of vinegar)
1 beaten egg

(add raisins if you like)

Directions:

Mix first 6 ingredients together.
Stir in buttermilk and egg.
Knead a bit on a floured surface.
Form into a round loaf. Cut a large X into the top and brush with milk.

Place on lightly greased pie plate or cookie sheet
(or skip the greasing and use parchment paper)

Bake @ 375º for 40 - 50 mins.
