Montezuma Pie Recipe

1 1/2 pounds ground beef
2 onions, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
2 T oil
2 - 28 oz. cans tomatoes
8 oz. can chopped mild green chilies
12 corn tortillas
Monterrey Jack cheese
2 C sour cream

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º.
Brown ground beef.
Saute onion and garlic in oil until transparent.
Add tomatoes, salt and pepper, simmer for 10 minutes.
Stir in chilies.
Heat 1/2" oil in a small skillet.
Dip each tortilla in hot oil to soften.
Drain on paper towel.
In two 2 1/2 quart casserole dishes, make layers of tortillas, sauce, beef and cheese.
Repeat layers, ending with cheese.
Bake uncovered at 350º for 30 minutes.
Top with sour cream just before serving.
