4 pound pot roast
2 T fat
1 bay leaf
2 T brown sugar
1 C water 1 onion, sliced
1 t caraway seed
1/4 C vinegar
1/4 t marjoram
salt and pepper
3 tart apples, cored and quartered

Directions:
Directions:
Brown meat in fat in a Dutch oven.
Place rack under meat and add all ingredients except apples.
Cover and cook over low heat on stove for 3 hours.
Add apples during the last 1/2 hour of cooking.
Remove meat and apples.
Thicken gravy with flour.
