6 chopped celery ribs
5 coarsely cut carrots
1 cup chopped onion
2 cups canned tomatoes
1 small can tomato paste
6 crushed peppercorns
6 whole cloves
2 bay leaves
1/2 tsp. dried thyme
2 cloves minced garlic
2 lbs. ground beef
2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. worcestershire sauce
4 tsp. sugar
6 Tbls. cornstarch in a cup of cooled stock

Directions:
Directions:
Cover: 5 lbs. veal bones with 14 cups water
(I use 8 cups of chicken broth and 6 cups of beef broth instead.)
Bring to boiling and add the following; then, simmer:

celery, carrots, onion, tomatoes, and tomato paste.
Then: cloves, bay leaves, dried thyme, meat, garlic and worcestershire sauce and sugar.

Before serving: remove bay leaves and cloves.
