Red Cake Icing


Ingredients:

1/2 c. Shortening
1 1/2 c. Granulated Sugar
2 Eggs
2 oz. Red Food Coloring
1 tsp. Salt
2 tsp. Cocoa
1 c. Buttermilk
2 1/4 c. Flour
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 tsp. Baking Soda
1 tsp. Vinegar

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 350º

2. Mix cream, shortening, eggs, and sugar, until well blended.

3. Make a paste of coloring and cocoa and at this to the mixture.

4. Add buttermilk, salt, flour, and vanilla,

5. Remove from mixer and stir in (but do not beat) the vinegar and soda.

6. Bake for 30 min. Let cool thoroughly.

7. Then with a sharp knife cut through each layer horizontally so you end with 4 layers. Then add Icing

5 Tbsp. Flour
1 c. Milk
1 c. Granulated Sugar
1 c. Butter
1 tsp. Vanilla

Cook flour and milk until thick and cool. Cream sugar, butter and vanilla until fluffy then add to flour/milk mixture

( Do not beat too long just enough to mix)
